Looking Back... - The letter of the week this week was Cc for candy cane and cookie, using just a piece of paper we learned how to make our own pattern candy canes  - For read aloud we listened to a few different versions of the Gingerbread Man story; ask your student which one was their favourite - After listening to the gingerbread man story, we sequenced how to make a gingerbread cookie from start to finish and labelled it 1-6  - We continued to practice writing letters 3 and 5 as they are a little tricky!  - We made snowmen books and counted up from 1 to 5 on each page, using snowman stickers to represent each number  Looking Forward... - Next week Friday we will be trying small Gingerbread cookies for our intro to the 5 senses, please let me know of any dietary restrictions that would require your student to not participate in the tasting - Friday December 19th is the last day of school before winter break! Classes will resume on Monday January 5th  - Frida...

We are in the final stretch before the holidays and getting festive in the classroom!  Looking Back... - This week we were busy!! We started the week learning the letter Ss for Snowflake, Snowman and Snow - In our journals we drew pictures to represent what we like to do in the snow!! Ask your student what they picked to draw about - In math we worked on subitizing numbers; this is having the ability to instantly recognize a number or set of items without having to count them, like when you look at dice - We also represented the numbers 4 (after reading Pete the Cat's "My Four Groovy Buttons) and 5 (after reading "Five Little Penguins")  - With our buddies we made snowflakes in art, using tape and water colour paints Looking Forward... - A reminder that there are to be NO TOYS at school. This is a school rule, as they become a big distraction and we cannot prevent them from being lost or ruined. Please keep all toys at home. I understand daycare sometimes allows toys...

Thank you so much to those of you who remembered to send in either a physical copy or an email of a Family Photo ☺  If you still need to send one, there is still time! We will be working on a family art project the next couple days and it is easier for the kiddos if they have a photo to reference.  Feel free to send a hard copy with your kiddo tomorrow or Wednesday, or pass one along to my email (stpenfold@cbe.ab.ca) and I can print it here.  Thanks again and see you all at conferences this week!!

Looking back... - The last two weeks we practiced two new letters, Tt and Ff  - We made hidden animals with Tails and had to guess each other's animals and turned the letter T into a Toucan to practice  - In math worked on representing the numbers 1 & 2 in our math books using pictures, numbers, and stickers  - We talked about what a pair is, brainstormed all sorts of pairs of things, and played a matching pair memory game that we made ourselves using different pairs of socks  - Using white boards we started writing the number 3, which has proven to be a little tricky  Looking Forward... - There is NO SCHOOL Thursday November 27 or Friday November 28th in order to run our parent teacher conferences, booking opens this weekend, please book a slot to come see what your kiddo has been learning so far!  - Please send a family photo in with your student next week, as we continue talking about the letter Ff for family.  - A friendly reminder that a...

This week in Kindergarten... Looking Back... - Our letter of the week this week was Aa; ask your student what words they remember that start with the letter Aa - We wrote the letter Aa on white boards and in our work books - We also practiced drawing, doing our first Art Hub of a fall goose - On Thursday we talked about Peace and made poppies for Remembrance Day - In math we continued representing the number 1 using pictures to organize pictures of 1 item vs pictures of more than one item  Looking Forward... - There is NO SCHOOL Monday November 10 to Wednesday November 12, see you again on Thursday November 13th ☺ - A friendly reminder that as the weather cools down it is important for your child to come dressed for the weather! We go outside every day. Please help your kindergartener begin to practice independently dressing for the outdoors, putting on their own gloves, hats and zipping up their jackets. Zippers can be particularly tricky, so lots of practice is required.
